What does it take to be an HR Director, or to take a position at Board level?
The HR World’s webinar this month took a long hard look at professional development for HR leaders. In a profession where most of your time is spent looking after the interests of other people, the message came across clear that HR must not only value and promote the good that it does, but they must also look after themselves as they ascend to the career heights they want to achieve.
Bringing together Hannah Waddington, Managing Director of Maru Search & Consultancy, Lisa Haggar, global people director and Linkedin’s Queen of HR and Sam Eaton, Founder, MindAbility Consultancy Ltd the panellists shared ideas, experience and opinions on how to invest in your career and ensure the skills you have are fully appreciated by employers. The webinar was sponsored by Maru Search & Consultancy.
Alongside advice, such as securing as much experience as possible and how story-telling can help HR professionals detail their impact on businesses, the panellists also called for HR to help each other in their work rather than trying to be too competitive. There was a great insight during the webinar into the status of HR within organisations. The panel also concluded that HR professionals should be certain to look after themselves in what can be a tough and emotionally draining role. By being true to yourself and following your ideas and instincts you can create the career you want in the best way possible.
