Retention: Holding on to The Talent You Need

The HR World’s webinar on retention also provided a masterclass on employee engagement.

Small surprise since the post-pandemic workforce now presents more of a challenge in terms of feeling satisfied and content in the workplace. Hybrid work, the cost of living crisis and The Great Resignation have all presented employers with new challenges for attracting and keeping staff.

In this context the webinar brought together Stephanie Buck, Founder and Managing Director of sponsor Eclipze Consultancy and Laura Bunn, HR Director Roadchef. Both participants have extensive experience and strong views on looking after the workforce, Stephanie working with organisations across the world and Laura guiding her business to a series of achievements around employee engagement including high rankings on the Best Companies league tables and the highest level of accreditation against the Investors In People Standard.

The conversation explored how organisations should communicate extensively with their employees to understand their motivations and use this information to reduce attrition. The speakers agreed that employee needs and desires had changed somewhat over recent years, with wellbeing and a sense of belonging now being considered more important than before. However, in the face of this it was clear that by being creative and thoughtful about satisfying employee needs it was possible to promote retention without having to engage in competitive pay rates.
