A hangover from the pandemic, the result of modern technology or the symptom of a society that doesn’t know how to talk – whatever the reasons inter-business communication issues provide HR with a huge challenge that needs attention. Impacting on everything from productivity to working culture, the need to communicate effectively, consistently and appropriately with the entire workforce is clear.
In The HR World’s webinar We Don’t Talk Anymore, sponsored by Thomas, Elcke du Plessis, Global Training Specialist, Thomas; Florence Carter, Global VP of People and Culture, Fuse Universal and Spencer Gray, People Business Partner, Thomas discussed the challenges around disseminating information around often geographically spread organisations. There are a plethora of diverse communication channels, platforms and technologies ready for HR to take advantage of, but it became clear that the challenge is always to select the right channel for the right person and the right occasion.
Age diversity and preference for communication formats featured largely in the conversation with the panelists explaining how it was possible to send different types of messages – and sometimes abbreviated versions to increase impact. It was also clear that despite the hybrid workforce and technology available it is still imperative for organisations to create opportunities for the chance meeting between colleagues, a social space for relaxing and the opportunity just to talk about things other than work.
